Unique Yoga Apparel and Accessories

Usually, when we talk about yoga apparel we mean yoga pants, yoga tops, yoga cami's and capris, and the like. But there's more to yoga apparel.

Yoga Sandals

Yoga sandals? Don't you do yoga in bare feet? Well, yes, but yoga sandals are not for wearing during yoga.

Yoga sandals help to separate each toe, instead of squishing them all together like most shoes and sandals. Yoga sandals are said to improve posture, keep your feet healthier, and even provide an acupressure massage to the areas between the toes. (They're also great for pedicures, which was their original use.)

Yoga sandals will also help your yoga practice – of course, when you're not wearing them. Yoga instructors often tell their students to "spread your toes", and wearing yoga sandals can help you get a feel for just what that means.

Yoga Socks

Yoga socks, which some people do wear during yoga practice, can be worn on or off the mat, to keep toes separated and the feet warm, but still allow space for your toes to "spread" and breathe.

Yoga socks come in a few different styles. Some look like a sock version of Michael Jackson's signature glove, with the toes sticking out of their own exit ways. Other yoga socks look like complete gloves for the feet, keeping everything covered and warm, but allowing the toes to remain separated (good for wearing with your yoga sandals).

Other yoga socks are more like a sock-muff for your foot, starting above the ankle but stopping mid-way on the foot. These yoga socks leave your toes and the balls of your feet completely open. These yoga socks, if you must wear any socks during your yoga practice, may be the best choice. They'll keep your cold feet warm, but shouldn't hinder your practice.

Of course, most yoga instructors recommend bare feet practice when possible. But yoga socks might fit in your off-the-mat wardrobe.

Yoga Head Bands

Yoga head bands remind me of those 80's music videos, and they really aren't much different than old style aerobic sweatbands. They are more stylish these days, and available with yoga themed colors and insignia.

Yoga headbands are usually made from a combination of cotton and lycra, and are meant to keep your hair off your face. If your hair is too short to be pulled back into a braid, but long enough to fall into your face during inversions, a yoga headband is an excellent investment to your yoga apparel wardrobe.
